Even today, the best linen craftsmen can still be found in Western Europe. Transforming linen into quality linen is an art. But when is linen quality? What should you pay attention to when choosing the right linen bed linen?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

1. Check the weight of the linen fabric.<\/h4>\n

To find out more about the thickness of the fabric, we look at the g\/m2 of the fabrics. G\/m2 represents the weight per square metre of fabric and says something about the density at which the fabric is woven.
Basically we can divide fabrics into three weight classes. Of course, you can divide them further, but in this article we divide them into three weight classes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Thin\/light fabrics up to 190 g\/m2<\/li>\n
  • Medium-weight fabrics weighing between 200 g\/m2 and 230 g\/m2<\/li>\n
  • Heavyweight fabrics over 230 g\/m2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The higher the grammage number, the denser the fabric will be and the stronger it will feel, but it is not necessarily the case that all fabrics over 230 g\/m2 are heavy and thick. It also has to do with the composition of the substance. For example, there are 265 g\/m2 fabrics that feel lighter\/flexible than a 230 g\/m2 fabric with a cotton satin composition.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    2. What fibre is used, how is the fabric woven, how is the fabric finished?<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

    To find out whether a substance belongs to the light, medium or heavy tissues, we have to dive a little deeper into density. The factors that determine the weight and therefore the density of the fabric are the type of weave used, the fibre used and the finish\/quality of the fabric.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    Type of fibre<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

    The density is determined by the fibres used during manufacture. For example, it is much lighter than cotton. As a result, a linen fabric can be woven with a high density, but still feels lighter and airier because this is a specific property of linen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    Fabric type<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

    Linen is a strong fibre. Its woody and naturally rather stiff structure means that expert knowledge of the material is necessary to weave a high quality fabric. A high quality fabric can last for years and has a high abrasion resistance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    Fabric finish\/quality<\/h4>\n

    Sometimes some starch is added to the product during the process, this gives more strength to the fabric and therefore the weight is higher. However, the starch will usually disappear after a first wash.
